Tale for Three Counties

If you haven't read the Tale book this year, The Call, make sure to check it out soon! The author, Yannick Murphy, will be visiting Lee-Whedon on March 23 for a book talk and signing. It isn't long but it still pulls you in and provides an enjoyable reading experience. The library's book club group will be having their discussion on March 5th if you would like to join in. Feel the Love!

Throughout the month of February we will be celebrating our patrons! We are holding a "Why I Love My Library" raffle for children, teens and adults. Using an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper tell us why you love Lee-Whedon. You can write it, draw it, decoupage it, or anything else you can think of to express yourself! The winners will be pulled at the end of the moth. The children's bag is stuffed full of goodies including books, stickers and toys. The teen bag has books, music, a doodlepad and crayons. The adult bag has two autographed books, DVDs, and more. Make sure to attach a raffle form to your entry!

Upcoming Events

January marked the beginning of our live band performances with Finally Fridays! The series will continue through Friday, March 2nd. Make sure you visit our website to see when your favorites are playing including The Easy Street Big Band, Creek Bend Bluegrass Band and the Fraterrigo Family Band. Other upcoming events this month include a showing of Kung Fu Panda 2 on the 28th.

In February we will be starting our Children's Programs again. These will include Fairy Tale Fun, Storytime, Bonjour Books, and a special week of activities from the 20th-24th. Winter Festivities

Our programs for December include 2 pajama story hours with Santa and a jewelry making class. We also have our ongoing programs fairy tale fun, book discussion, and genealogy help. Starting in January we will have our Finally Fridays series with live musical performances every Friday through March. For more detailed information or to register for a program you can come in to the library or call.
In the Christmas spirit we will be offering a fine free week from December 27th - December 31st. This means any book that is overdue can be brought in and we will waive your late fines!

Fall Fun

October is filled with fun programs at the library. We are doing Zumba on Friday's, having pajama storytime on Wednesday's, and knitting something warm for the winter. We are in the midst of our Civil War Talks. Our first session had a lively discussion of what Lincoln's views were before he became president. We are preparing for several more programs this month including some spooky tales and pumpkin decorating. Teens and adults will have Tales from Beyond in the afternoon on the 22nd. Adults will have a Historical Society program at the library on the evening of the 24th. We have a no cutting pumpkin decorating on the morning of the 22nd for all ages.
Did you ever wonder if you were related to a Salem witch? Or maybe one of Henry VIII's beheaded wives? Then stop by for our Who Are You? genealogy help sessions on Wednesdays and we can help you find out.

Lee-Whedon's fall programming list is available now. Our first program starts on September 13th so make sure to check out the amazing things we plan on doing. Going along with the season we have Pumpkin Decorating (children), Tales from Beyond (ages 11+), and our first Family Movie Night. We'll be offering Zumba to get you moving, Knitting to keep you warm, and Civil War Talks to make you think. Many of our programs do require registration and program sizes may be limited so make sure to sign up early!

Summer Wrap up

If you haven't made it to one of our Summer Reading Events you still have time! Our last week of Summer programs is August 8th-12th. We still have Manga Drawing, Tae Kwon Do, Henna Tattoos, Crozoo, and so much more! Make sure to register online from our homepage, call the library or stop by and sign up in person.

The library is a great place to be during the dog days of summer! We have air conditioned facilities with comfy chairs to sit and read the newspaper or a book, free internet access, and a community puzzle table. Why not spend a few hours browsing our shelves or learning something new! You can learn a new language, discover new recipes, and get lost in world all your own. So what are you waiting for, come on in today!

Lee-Whedon is bursting with activity this summer. Tuesday - Thursday have multiple activities going through out the day for all different age groups. We are also offering our Fantastic Fridays events, the next is on July 15th. Drop by and checkout our summer programs while picking up a book to read at the beach! Most of our programs offer prizes to one lucky winner, so make sure you bring your library card because that is your chance to win.
Our new book shelves are also bursting! We have the latest from Evanovich, Brockman, Patterson, Griffin, and more. We are putting our new DVDs, audiobooks, and music CDs out on a weekly basis. Make sure to check our catalog or browse our shelves for the titles you want! If you haven't seen our Teen area we now have a bookcase dedicated to Teen Nonfiction.

We are now signing up for our Summer Programs! Make sure to check out a full listing of events on our website and library kiosk or in the upcoming Pennysaver and Journal Register. This summer is chock full of wonderous programs and events including magic, zoo animals, fencing and manga. As always our programs are free but some do require registration and seating may be limited. You can register on our website, by phone, or at the library. Please remember, the library is a safe and friendly environment but for younger children we do ask that a parent or guardian accompanies the child.

Lastest and Greatest in Series!

If you haven't read it yet, check out Julia Spencer-Fleming's latest novel, Once was a Soldier. This is the seventh book in the popular series about Clare Ferguson and Russ Van Alstyne.

For those who are fans of Iris Johansen we have Eve. This is the first in a trilogy of works focusing on Eve Duncan, including information about who killed her daughter Bonnie. Also available in Audio! This is listed at #13 on the NY Times Bestseller List.

We also own the latest in the Stone Barrington series by Stuart Woods, Bel-Air Dead. This is also a new addition in our Audio collection. Ranked #3 on the NY Times Bestseller List!

David Baldacci's the Sixth Man is another new addition to the library. This is the 5th book in his Sean King and Michelle Maxwell series. We also have this title as an Audiobook! Currently #1 on the NY Times Bestseller list.

Availble in print and audiobook is Jean Auel's latest title, The Land of Painted Caves. This is the 6th book in her Earth's Children series. By the way this title is #2 on the NY Times Bestseller List this week!

J.D. Robb has released the 32nd book in her Eve Dallas series, Treachery in Death. This title is also available as an audiobook. Don't be intimidated by the number of books, these stories stand on their own and do not need to be read in order.

Diane Mott Davidson has delivered her 16th culinary delight in Crunch Time. This series revolves around caterer Goldy Schulz and her sleuthing.

We are beginning to bloom after a long and dreary winter and our gardens are beginning to sprout. If your garden is in need of help or you need to add some new plants, we have plenty of gardening books to help you along the way. Free Programs!

Time is running out if you haven't signed up for our Free Programs that begin on April 30th! We are making Swarovski Crystal Necklaces and beginning our 3 session Silk Painting class. You don't need to be an artist to do either. We will show you how easy it is to make your own beautiful accessories. Starting May 14th we have Altered Art Journal making. Create a journal about anything you choose, personalize it with your photos and sayings, and viola! a one of a kind creation you can show off to your family and friends. Our last program for the spring is Digital Photography. Learn how to frame a picture, use the lighting to your advantage, and be creative with your photos. Seating is limited so sign up soon!

It's a Spring Fling!

We have many upcoming programs at the library. We are offering a job related computer class on how to network using LinkedIn. Miss Mack has a weeks worth of activities for kids during Spring Break. We have Thomas the Tank Engine, Musical Mayhem, the Magician Michael Joseph, and Origami! We also have our Spring Teen and Adult programs starting on the 30th. We are offering a 3 session Silk Painting series, Swarovski Necklace making, a 2 session Altered Art Journals program, and a 2 session Digital Photography program. Marching towards Spring!

March brings with it many new additions and programs at Lee-Whedon. Our final performance for Finally Fridays is on the 4th so make sure to come and listen. We are continually adding new books, music, DVD's, eBooks and audiobooks to our collection, just look for the new stickers on the spine of audiobooks, back case of CD's and on the New Shelves located near circulation or in the Teen Area.

We will be hosting a Nooks & Nibbles evening; a presentation and discussion on how to use your Nook at the library. We will be providing step-by-step instructions and a demonstration on borrowing our eBooks and putting them onto your Nook or other compatible eBook Reader.

In celebration of St. Patrick's Day make sure you check out our materials on Ireland. We have a wonderful assortment of Irish stories, crafts, and music! Including CD's from the Dady Brother's, a Finally Friday's performance this year. You can also learn Irish (Gaelic) online from Mango with your library card. Sláinte!

February Heats Up!

Looking for free entertainment for Valentine's Day Weekend? Look no further, Lee-Whedon is in the midst of its Finally Fridays Series. We have The Blind Leading The Blind on Feb. 11th. And on the 18th we have the Dady Brothers with Irish Folk music.

We have a wonderful selection of romantic reads for those of you that prefer to stay cuddled up at home. Check out the display as you walk in for a few titles that will hold your attention all evening long. Give our Happily Ever After quiz a try and see how well you know your romance!

And for those of you who really want to impress your significant other, we have a wide array of DIY craft books! There is no better way to say you care than with a homemade piece of art. Or better yet, with a homemade meal and dessert! We have plenty of staff recommended books to help you make dinner an unforgettable occassion.

In case you haven't been to the library this month, we are doing weekly drawings about this years Tale for Three Counties book. Each week we display a different theme which relates to Mudbound. All you need to do is fill in an entry slip and wait until Friday to see if you won!

We also kicked off the 10th Anniversary of our Finally Fridays Series. So far we have had two fabulous performances with many more to come. For more information you should stop by and pick up a flyer listing all the bands who will be performing here every Friday through March 4th!
